Modern society split into atoms – separate representatives. It consists of individuals, who look very much alike each other. Just because we dress the same.

A girl with bowler hat, a young man with Mohawk haircut make us turn round, wonder and… strain ourselves. This tension around subcultures appeared in the society not so long ago. In the press they started talking about goth-cannibals; emo young people, committing suicides; skinheads, killing people. The climax of it all in my city was the introduction of the ban for pupils on appearing at school in the clothes which reveal their belonging to some subculture. There were attempts to put under control the students of the universities, recommendations to inform the police about the weird looking young people. The psychologist of one of the schools of St. Petersburg told me that in Russia there exists the standard on appearance for the citizens. In her eyes I saw confidence in her rightness and fear. But what scares us so much? Can young people, belonging to different subcultures, be really so dangerous? In order to answer these questions I decided to look at them through the lens of my camera.
